Since 1981 He has worked at the Milano Astronomical Observatory and since 1984 at the Catania Astrophysical Observatory.

His major research interests include solid state detectors for astronomical instruments, CCD controllers, image acquisition and processing, and CCD characterization.

He is currently involved in development of large-area CCD cameras, based on transputers and digital signal processing (DSP) for the instruments of the Italian National Telescope "Galileo" (TNG), placed at the Canarian Islands; control systems designing for the mechanics of the high resolution spectrograph (SARG) that will be installed at one of the two TNG Nasmith focal planes.

At the Catania Observatory He has developed an instrumental apparatus to obtain automated reduction on acquired data and permit a quick evaluation of the CCD characteristics directly at the laboratory.

He's member of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), of the Societa` Astronomica Italiana (SAIt) and of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
